Comparison and competition are rooted in pride and destroy unity and quench the Holy Spirit.
The world embraces “healthy competition,” whereas the Spirit of God embraces unity through humility, achieved through the Holy Spirit. The goal of a follower of Jesus Christ isn’t to outrun, outperform, or outshine their spiritual brother or sister but to outserve them. The key to living humbly and powerfully, without entitlement, is through taking the intentional lower position as the greatest servant in any environment. A servant never competes against the other servants or those they serve. They simply live to serve the will of their master without grumbling or delay. Jesus Christ, the King of kings, was also the Servant of all. He lived to reign with His heart of a servant. Modeling for us that a kingdom-minded leader, or in His case, the King, never competes against the ones He serves. The heart of servitude will restore the hearts of children to their Father and the heart of the Father to His children. But the heart of entitlement will destroy unity and relationships.

There is no competition or comparison in love. The roots of both lead to pride, and pride is fueled by a false sense of importance and false identity.

To steward unity well within the body of Christ, we must learn to steward honor well. Honoring one another for the unique gifts, talents, and callings we each have been freely given without tripping over gifts, talents, and callings we do not already have.

Comparison and competition will poison the body, pollute the gift of prophecy, and always create division. Love God, love people, and embrace becoming the servant of all, as Christ demonstrated.
